This reinterpretation of Wolfgang Tillmans’ photograph Frank in the Shower explores the duality between masculinity and femininity, inward and outward perception and what it means to be an artist expressing vulnerability as a commodity for consumption.

The original photograph that became the cover for Frank Ocean’s studio album Blonde is often displayed at a modest size next to colossal works, subverting expectation and emphasizing the ethereal nature of the image and the moment it’s captured.

Frank in the Clouds offers a refuge to reflect on this moment captured in time. What makes an empowered artist hide his face behind a bandaged hand? What does it mean to simultaneously be empowered and vulnerable?
